Oliver Porterfield
President of the County Commission
Oliver B. Porterfield graduated from Peterstown High School, Concord
University with a B.S. in Education, and Marshall University with a
Masters in Guidance and Counseling. He also attended West Virginia
University where he received a Certificate in Administration. He taught
Union High School, as well as a Guidance Counselor at Peterstown High
School. Mr. Porterfield served as Principal at Gap Mills and Peterstown
Elementary School. After this time he served as Assistant Superintendent
and Vocational Director of Monroe County Schools. He retired in 1989,
where he was then employed by Joyce Engineering as a recycling
specialist until 1996. Mr. Porterfield was elected as a County
Commissioner in 1996, and then reelected in 2002. In Mr. Porterfield's
free time he enjoys farming and working as a sales associate with United
Country Real Estate in Lindside, West Virginia. Mr. Porterfield is a
member and deacon of Bozoo Christian Church, a member of Bozoo Ruritan
Club. He is married to Betty Frances, who is a member of the Trail of
Tears International Dance Troupe of Virginia. They have Three Children;
Charles, a physician of Pulmonary and Sleep Disorders. Keith, Deputy
Director State Division of Environmental Protection. Rhonda, an Art
Instructor and Chairman of the Art Department at Giles County High
School.
